Pre-Session Information

I'm so excited to photograph your family! Here are a few important things to note about our session to ensure that you have an enjoyable experience.

Chatting with your family: Photos can sometimes feel stressful and, let's be honest, husbands aren't always thrilled about picture day but I've found that kids really feed off the energy of BOTH parents. If one parent is stressed and constantly scolding kids to look at the camera then kids will pick up on that. If both parents stay relaxed and roll with the punches, kids are more likey to do the same. Try your best not to discipline kids during our session- of course if there is an element of safety then please do correct behavior but, honestly, I'm a mom and I can handle and wrangle over excited kids! I recommend being open and telling your family (and partner) how important these photos are to you and that you are really hoping to have a special experience.

Vibes: Listen to your favorite music on the car ride to the session to keep positive moods!

Dads: Listen, Dads can make or break a session. A Dad who is playful and loving with their family will make for the sweetest photos and a Dad who clearly is hating the experience will make a BIG difference in the photos.

Treats/Water: I'm NEVER above bribery. I find that some great options for treats during a session are smarties or marshmallows. Both can be eaten quickly and won't leave mouths or tongues crazy colors!

During the Session: I like to get the "smiling/looking at the camera" photos early on in the session but then I typically like to step back and let your family dynamic play out: playing, snuggling, etc. I will give prompts but the biggest piece of advice I have during a session is to JUST.KEEP.SMILING. Even if it feels like chaos, keep a smile on your face!

In-Home Sessions: Please make sure that all blinds are open and overhead lights are turned off and feel free to have your favorite music playing, candle burning, shoes off and just be cozy at home! I do recommend that electronics get turned off 15 minutes before I arrive to ensure that no one gets upset.
